MBI Plays a Big Role in Golden Guardian 2010!

MBI Media was selected to play a key role in the latest state-wide disaster and emergency response exercise directed by the California Emergency Management Agency (Cal-EMA).

The exercise scenario depicted a terrorist attack on the San Francisco Bay Area, including attacks on cargo container ships dockside at Oakland and Redwood City harbors, as well as industrial sabotage, tanker truck explosions, and suspected chemical attacks throughout the region. The goal of the exercise was to measure readiness and responses among local, state and federal agencies and authorities.

MBI's role was to produce what Cal-EMA called “synthetic media reports“—mock news reports utilizing TV news anchors on set, live TV reporters on the scene, radio reports, and bulletins. This was all done as “breaking news” enactments, including actual emergency crews responding on-scene.

The “synthetic” breaking news reports were produced by MBI's in-house team of veteran and award-winning news producers, writers and reporters, who collectively have amassed more than 100 years of major market experience.

In “covering” Cal-EMA's terrorist attack, our staff drew from its own rapid-paced news gathering experiences, gleaned from covering major news events such as the eruption of Mount St. Helens, the 1994 Los Angeles earthquake, the Los Angeles riots of 1992, and most recently, the largest wildfire in Los Angeles County history—the disastrous Station Fire of 2009.

MBI's approach was to mirror an actual emergency. To do this our team used text, graphics, and footage from our extensive video library along with new footage shot on-location specifically for this project. To simulate the look of authentic breaking news, MBI Media selected professional television anchors and reporters from its roster of on-air talent from around the state. By using professional news footage and anchors, we were able to create the look and feel of realism with a sense of emergency.

This project had an additional challenge: a tight deadline and a quick turnaround were of paramount importance to Cal-EMA. Thanks to cohesive teamwork, years of reporting experience, and our in-house media library and editing capabilities, MBI was able to deliver a top-quality product on time and on budget. Tight deadlines and quick turnarounds—these are the challenges in which MBI Media thrives and shines. We deliver!
