Norman Y. Mineta San Jose International Airport
Norman Y. Mineta San Jose International Airport Terminal Area Improvement Program
The San Jose City Council approved a $1.5 billion implementation revision to the Terminal Area Improvement for the Mineta San Jose International Airport Master Plan. The revisions allow the Airport to maintain its vision for the future and to respond to the needs of the traveling public and the airlines at a significantly reduced cost.
MBI Media was asked to join the Hensel Phelps Company Team for the precondition survey. MBI Media spent 12 days shooting still photography of the airport, on both the ground and air to document the existing conditions. Five days of video were also shot to document the existing conditions of the airport.
MBI constructed a web-based library to display the photographs that were taken during the preconstruction phase. This library was unique in the fact that a special grid was designed using GPS coordinates and the descriptions of photographs in the library also includes the grid number. The grid number was a very important aspect for the Hensel Phelps team and MBI Media was able to make all the pieces fit together seamlessly.
Once the preconstruction phase is complete, MBI will be documenting the construction phase of the airport on a monthly basis and include the photographs in the proprietary web-based archival library. In addition to our monthly photography, MBI Media is currently responsible for the setup and installation of 6 special cameras that allow time-lapse photography in 6 different locations. These cameras will be documenting construction in progress on a timed schedule. The location of these cameras will be updated monthly and maintenance will be performed on an as-needed basis. These photographs can be used in videos and other presentations that the client may request.
